Texas is the place of Ennis Rakestraw Jr.’s birth, and he was raised not far from Dallas. After that, he became well-known for his exceptional tenure with the Missouri Tigers as a defensive back.
The Detroit Lions selected him in the NFL Draft’s second round last month. Not only did Rakestraw’s long-held desire come true when he got the call from the Lions, but it also meant he would be able to fulfill a promise he made as a child.
In a letter to his fourth-grade teacher, Mr. Gammon, Rakestraw wrote, “I hope you’re alive because if I make it to a professional football player, I will talk about you.”
