SHIGAR: According to the Broad Peak Rescue Team, mountaineer Murad Sadpara, who was in charge of this year’s K2 cleanup mission, passed unexpectedly on Monday after suffering severe injuries on his way down from Broad Peak.
After departing the base camp earlier today, the rescue crew arrived at Camp One and verified Sadpara’s demise.
Only a few days after successfully removing the body of deceased mountaineer Hasan Shagri from the summit of K2 and transporting it down to base camp, Sadpara had set out on another mission to summit K2’s Broad Peak alongside a Portuguese mountaineer.
The Portuguese mountaineer became ill while they were traveling, so they made the decision to head back to base camp.Regretfully, Sadpara suffered severe injuries on their way back after a boulder struck his head at Camp One.
According to rescue reports, Sadpara’s body has been carried to the Japanese camp and will be moved to the base camp by 2:00 PM today. From there, it will be flown by an army chopper to Skardu.
