As winter approaches and 2024 comes to an end, Russian forces are still driving their Ukrainian adversaries back.
Approximately 2,350 square kilometers (907 square miles) of area in eastern Ukraine and the Kursk region of western Russia have been taken over and retaken by Russia.
However, the human cost has been terrible.
Russia lost 45,680 casualties in November, more than in any other month since its full-scale invasion in February 2022, according to Britain’s defense minister.
The most recent estimate from UK Defence Intelligence states that Russia lost 1,523 troops on average every day, both killed and injured.
It claims that on November 28, Russia lost almost 2,000 men in a single day for the first time.
“We’re seeing the Russians grinding out more advances,” a government source said.
