What is your level of indignation and rage following the 2024 budget? Since it is the right of every salaried individual in the nation. We have been aware for many years that the country’s taxpayer base has to be expanded.
Record numbers of people have fallen back below the poverty line in the last few years, forcing some of the harshest budget cuts on families that, at least, I can remember in my lifetime. This was, more than any other period in our history, the moment to break the mold created by previous budgets, be creative, (finally) do the right thing, lower indirect taxes, and begin collecting direct taxes from noncompliant taxpayers and defaulting sectors.
Rather, we received the most unoriginal budget, which did nothing more than pressure the same 1.4% of the population that never bothered to register as taxpayers. While this is going on, the remaining 98.6% (apart from children) can continue to celebrate, not as tax evaders deserving of punishment (as some other nations categorize and handle those who fail to declare their income accurately and pay taxes), but rather as members of a special group known as “non-filers.”
Since Budget 2024’s specifics were made public a few weeks ago, observers have pointed out a number of outrageous things in it, including: The government has rewarded simpletons who trusted that ultimately the base of taxpayers would be expanded with an income tax rate of up to 45%, comparable to that of Scandinavia.Even greater taxes are levied on packed milk, lest someone get the bright notion to protect themselves and their family from the risks associated with unrestricted, open milk. These tariffs are intended to penalize anyone who dares to send their children to school and receive an education.
