The news that The Daily Show’s former host would be taking the reins come 2024—the year of the US presidential election—has thrilled online users.
Social media was used by many, including previous late-night program hosts, to celebrate the occasion. “Yesssssss he’s back,” commented Trevor Noah, who had previously succeeded him in the role, on X.
In response, the former host of The Daily Show and current late-night host for HBO exclaimed, “Jordan’s back!” in reference to NBA all-time MVP Michael Jordan’s return to the game following his 1995 retirement to the Chicago Bulls.
When the news emerged, he responded, “I mean, that’s, that is a surprise,” in an interview with NBC. “A host is needed for that program. Yes, he is an exceptionally good one.So certainly, I’m looking forward to seeing what he achieves.”
On the internet, several people rejoiced about Jon’s return.
“Jon Stewart returning to the Daily Show during an election year is like when your best friend or older brother showed up when a bully was messing with you,” wrote writer Kevin Washington.
