The police have apprehended Ahmar Rashid Bhatti, a victorious independent candidate sponsored by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) from the PP-165 constituency.
Bhatti, who won the Punjab Assembly seat of Lahore, was arrested in the Township region of Lahore on allegations relating to a major criminal case.
According to police records, Bhatti is a named suspect in the central case of the May 9 incident. The arrest was based on video evidence linking Bhatti to an attack on Jinnah House (Corps Commander House, Lahore).
The incident in question concerns an attack on Jinnah House that occurred following the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan. According to the authorities, Bhatti commanded a group that took part in the attack, which led to his involvement.
Bhatti’s arrest has highlighted the confluence of politics and law enforcement, especially given his PTI connection. Despite winning the elections with the PTI’s support, Bhatti is currently embroiled in legal processes related to the Jinnah House incident.
