Following the death of Mawlana Shah Karim Aga Khan IV, the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN) announced on social media that Prince Rahim al-Hussaini Aga Khan had been appointed the 50th hereditary Imam of the Ismaili Muslim community.
At the age of 88, Prince Karim Aga Khan, who was well-known for his achievements in horse racing, enormous riches, and efforts on world development, passed away in Lisbon, Portugal, on Tuesday.
The news was made in Lisbon on Wednesday, where the late Imam’s will was read in front of his family and prominent community leaders, according to a post on the AKDN social media website.
The leadership role has now been transferred to Mawlana in accordance with the centuries-old custom of nass, which is the official designation of a successor.
