In anticipation of its blossoming, hundreds of internet users have watched a live video of an endangered plant known as the “corpse flower” because of its musty odor.
The Royal Botanic Gardens of Sydney are home to the titan arum, or scientifically known as amorphophallus titanum, which blooms for a few twenty-four hours every few years.
“Wet socks, hot cat food, or rotting possum flesh” is the description of the stench that the plant, affectionately known as Putricia, will emit when it opens.
“WWTF”—short for “we watch the flower”—is a unique word that has been used by thousands of people to comment in the livestream’s chat due to the uncertainty surrounding Putricia’s bloom.
