Regarding her part in Scandal, Kerry Washington has revealed something startling.
The 48-year-old actress disclosed that she was informed she was a “risk” to be the lead in the drama series’ cast during an appearance on the Reign with Josh Smith podcast.
Since it hadn’t happened in over 40 years, Kerry explained, “When Scandal first aired, everyone talked about it, literally talking about it as ‘a risk,’ to have a black woman as the lead of a network drama.”
“And it hadn’t happened in my lifetime because I was in my 30s at the time,” she added. Additionally, nobody believed it would succeed.
“I wasn’t proud of myself, but I was really happy that it succeeded. I wasn’t thinking, “Oh, I’m fantastic.”
