The former minister of sports claims that she left parliament for “entirely personal and positive” reasons in the upcoming election.
In 2020, at the age of 44, the former sports minister—who has represented Chatham and Aylesford since 2010—received a breast cancer diagnosis.
In 2021, she declared that she had been given the all-clear and advised women of all ages to “check your bits and bobbins” after spending five months in isolation while undergoing chemotherapy and radiation.
Ms. Crouch stated on X that she did not wish to run for office again for “entirely personal and positive” reasons in a letter she wrote to the chairman of the Conservative Party in her community.
“Everyone’s path with cancer is unique,” she continued. “But for me, receiving a diagnosis and completing treatment has been a life-affirming experience.
“It has been an opportunity to pause and reflect on my own personal priorities and based on that I truly believe it is time to seek a new professional challenge.”We put off things far too much in our comparatively short lives, but eventually you have to tell yourself, “If not now, when,” and I’ve come to the conclusion that “now” is the right moment.”
Ms. Crouch, a coach certified by the FA, gained notoriety during her tenure in parliament for her love of football and her advocacy of other causes, such as aid for dementia sufferers and gambling prohibitions.
