East London couple Lukasz Kurek and Agnieszka Uliasz were living in an apartment in the tower on Freshwater Road and were preparing to get married in September.
Just before three in the morning on Monday, the structure caught fire, forcing more than 80 people to flee. The pair claimed that before rushing to safety, they had barely time to grab their dogs and phones.
“The worst thing is that we were supposed to have our wedding in three weeks, that was meant to be the best day of our lives,” Mr Kurek stated to News.
“Due to the fire that happened, everything is now only dust.
We’re inconsolable.
“We are at a standstill. We have nothing, nowhere to sleep, no money.”
Ms. Uliasz stated that their passports and paperwork were misplaced and that she was supposed to travel to Poland on Saturday. The £2,500 bridal gown she wore was also destroyed in the fire.
As they exited their apartment, the lorry driver said, “There was smoke everywhere.” “He added that when we were leaving the building, we were having trouble breathing.
