The 57-year-old has been active in politics for three decades.
During that time, she was an MEP, shadow minister in the House of Lords, and held many positions in the Welsh government.
She ran unsuccessfully for the Welsh Labour leadership in 2018, ranking third in a membership vote.
She stated ahead of the voting that if she is elected first minister, she will surrender her peerage.
In an interview with WalesOnline during the campaign, she described herself as “quite normal for a politician and quite down to earth.”
Ms Morgan was born in Ely, Cardiff, and is the daughter of a priest.
The Reverend Canon Bob Morgan was a Labour Party politician.
Her mother’s family is from Pembrokeshire in west Wales, where she was also a councillor.
Baroness Morgan attended a Welsh-medium secondary school and received a scholarship to study at the United World College of the Atlantic in the Vale of Glamorgan.
