These days, fans clamor for photographs and autographs and sing Jensen Huang’s name wherever he travels.
Not your typical superstar, this 61-year-old electrical engineer is the CEO of Nvidia, the semiconductor giant whose valuation recently soared beyond $3 trillion (£2.3 trillion), momentarily surpassing Apple as the second-most valuable business in the world before reversing course.
According to technology analyst Bob O’Donnell, “he is literally being treated like a rock star.” Jensen sees this as a chance to advance Nvidia. It’s evident he’s having fun.”
His newly acquired prestige was flaunted this week at Computex in Taiwan, an annual computer convention that brings the greatest corporations in the world to the island. He even had an embossed $9,000 Tom Ford biker jacket.
Born in Taiwan but leaving when he was five years old, Mr. Huang wondered out loud if this was a “good idea” as he posed for endless photos at the conference, even writing his name on a woman’s blouse. The local media described it as the epitome of “Jensanity.”
This coincides with reports that US regulators intend to launch an investigation into large technology companies, such as Nvidia, for their alleged control over the AI sector.
Peers have taken notice of Mr. Huang’s efforts; Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg referred to Mr. Huang as “Taylor Swift, but for tech” in response to a social media follower who was unaware of him.
