Kristian Fulton, a defensive back for the Chargers, intercepted Patrick Mahomes in the first quarter. Mahomes attempted to tackle Fulton during the return play by dropping his shoulder and diving at the player, but he was utterly unsuccessful.
Instead, Mahomes struck Rashee Rice, a teammate, in the knee. Rice was able to walk off the field gently but was carted off once he got to the sideline and did not return for the remainder of the game.
After Rice’s injury, Travis Kelce spoke on a recent “New Heights” episode.
We’re going to have a great offensive game, guy, and it won’t get any easier when Rashee gets hurt in the process. I really adore the way that man was attacking every session, the way he was playing football,” Kelce remarked.
It’s funny how sometimes you just love the guys who play it correctly, and Rashee had been doing that, so when I watched him fall, it was like a huge dagger to me,” Kelce went on.
