There is currently no timeframe for when US officials will assist major telecom carriers in removing Chinese government-backed hackers from their networks, officials said Tuesday.
“Until we have a complete picture, it’s hard to know the exact parameters of how to kick them off since we’re still figuring out just how deeply and where they’ve penetrated,” a senior official with the US Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) told reporters.
A senior FBI official further said, using an abbreviation for the Chinese government, “Most [telecom] providers are still working to illuminate the full extent of the PRC activity.”
The phone conversations of prominent US politicians, including Vice President and President-elect Donald Trump, have been targeted by the accused Chinese hackers.
