In order to put a stop to the conflict that Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine started, Pope Francis has advocated for talks between Russia and Ukraine.
The Pope stated that “boldness [was] needed to open the door” to communication “in order to create a just and lasting peace” between the two sides” in his customary Christmas Day speech.
His plea came after Ukraine said that at least 184 missiles and drones were used in a significant Russian strike on its energy infrastructure that same day.
The pope’s plea for Kyiv to have “the courage to raise the white flag” and negotiate an end to the war was vehemently rejected by Ukraine earlier this year.
Other wars were also mentioned in his Urbi et Orbi (to the city and the world) address.
