According to an investigation, the grainy dust of an asteroid named Bennu has the chemical components of life.
Numerous minerals and thousands of organic compounds can be found in samples of the space rock that were collected by a NASA spacecraft and transported to Earth.
These include nucleobases, the building blocks of DNA, and amino acids, the chemicals that make up proteins.
This lends credence to the idea that asteroids brought these essential components to Earth when they collided with it billions of years ago, yet it does not prove that life ever existed on Bennu.
The same molecules may have been transported to other planets in our Solar System, according to scientists.
