WASHINGTON: On Saturday, thousands of protesters, mostly women, gathered in Washington to express their disapproval of President-elect Donald Trump’s inauguration. Many of them were wearing pink hats, which are reminiscent of a far larger demonstration that took place at his first swearing-in ceremony in 2017.
In light rain, demonstrators gathered in Franklin Park, one of three starting points for the “People’s March” that will pass through downtown, to call for bodily autonomy and gender equity.
Before making their way to the Lincoln Memorial for the march’s last stop, other demonstrators assembled at two different parks close to the White House. One group was centered on local Washington issues, while the other was more concerned with immigration and democracy.
Between the kickoff places, police cars drove by while sirens were on.
