ISLAMABAD Bushra Bibi, the wife of the imprisoned founder-chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has emerged as a new leader following the recent protests organized by the party.
She has thus far only sometimes been featured in official photographs, always wearing a face veil and being hidden from view at court appearances by thick white sheets.
However, Khan’s third wife has defended her husband and stirred his ardent supporters since she was freed from the Adiala jail in Rawalpindi last month, where her husband and former prime minister is still detained.
“It was assumed that there was an understanding that she is a non-political person, hence she will not be a threat,” noted analyst Asma Faiz, who teaches political science as an associate professor at Lahore University of Management Sciences.
