Liaquat Baloch, the leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, denied on Friday that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Barrister Gohar Khan had said his party was “under pressure” and that their plans to meet in Islamabad for talks on forming a government after the general elections on February 8 had failed.
Following the polls, there were reports that the two parties were considering joining forces with the PTI’s victorious independent candidates in order to form a coalition and form a government in the provinces and the center, where they could have garnered a majority of parliamentarians.
Gohar, however, asserted that the party’s leadership was avoiding meetings with him and that the JI was “under pressure” not to speak with PTI about the aforementioned problem.
The PTI legislator made the statement while appearing on a news program.
But Baloch stated, “There was no pressure on us and JI doesn’t take decisions under pressure,” in a video that JI posted.
Following multiple unsuccessful attempts to arrange a meeting with Gohar and the PTI’s intention to discuss only the formation of a government in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the veteran JI member insisted that the central majlis-e-shura of his party should accept the PTI’s decision, given the divisions within its leadership on the subject.
