Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz declared on Friday that the university “is now under my control” and that scholarships would be awarded to its students following the conviction of former Premier Imran Khan and former First Lady Bushra Bibi in the £190 million Al-Qadir Trust University case.
The CM Maryam stated, “[Accountability] court has handed over control of the varsity to the government following the verdict of the £190 million case,” during an Honhaar Scholarship Program ceremony held today at the University of Okara.
In addition to imposing hefty fines on Khan and his wife, an accountability court earlier today sentenced Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), to 14 years in prison and his wife to seven years.
