LONDON: Syed Zulfi Bukhari, the former prime minister Imran Khan’s advisor on foreign policy, has asserted that Pakistani government sources pressured Oxford University to prevent the PTI founder from running for chancellor.
Bukhari spearheaded a well-known media campaign to support the jailed top leader of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) in his bid to run for chancellor. However, the university ruled that Khan’s politicalization of the matter and Toshakhana conviction precluded him from even being allowed to run for office.
In an interview with Geo News, Bukhari expressed his conviction that Pakistani government forces actively opposed Khan’s candidacy and exerted pressure on the institution to prevent him from running for chancellor.
