Dominique Pelicot, who planned the mass rape of his wife for almost ten years, knocked her unconscious with drugs, and shared photos and videos of the crimes, was requested by a French prosecutor on Monday to serve the maximum 20-year prison sentence.
In a trial that garnered international attention and evolved into an investigation into the prevalence of sexual violence in France and beyond, Pelicot, 71, has admitted the accusations.
Public prosecutor Laure Chabaud told the court, “The maximum sentence is 20 years, which is a lot, but at the same time, too little, in view of the seriousness of the acts that were committed and repeated.”
The majority of the other fifty men on trial have stated that they were unaware that they were raping Gisele Pelicot.
