The artwork has been momentarily closed owing to “inappropriate behaviour” such as persons flashing body parts to the camera, swearing, and displaying 9/11 pictures.
The site has officially resumed with specified hours of operation in New York City (6am-4pm) and Dublin (11am-9pm).
In an effort to combat disruptive activity at the installation, the team behind it, Portals.org, has implemented a “proximity-based solution” in which if individuals try to stand on the portal and obstruct the camera, the live feed will blur on both sides of the Atlantic.
In New York, the gateway will maintain on-site security during all hours of operation, and fencing has been constructed to aid in crowd management.
