KARACHI: Officials in the port city of Hyderabad said early on Tuesday that the number of fatalities from the catastrophic cylinder burst in Preetabad has increased to 18.
Five injured people are receiving treatment at Karachi’s Civil Hospital, including two-year-old Haram Ashraf and 35-year-old Ashraf Hussain, who are in critical condition.
Three more individuals have sustained injuries: Kinza Zeeshan, age five; Aliya M. Farrukh, age six; and Faizan Ashraf, age nine.
The catastrophic explosion happened at a store selling liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders in the Preetabad neighborhood of Hyderabad on Thursday of last week.
Another huge explosion occurred at 6 o’clock in the evening, and when people hurried towards the business to put out the fire, the shop caught fire and other nearby residences caught fire as well.
49 injuries and two fatalities were recorded at first. The Combined Military Hospital, Civil Hospital Hyderabad, and Civil Hospital Karachi received the seriously injured patients.
Eyewitnesses reported that one of the fires also destroyed a rickshaw and hurt other bystanders.
