The chief of the navy, Admiral Sir Ben Key, has launched an internal investigation into the allegations made by Sophie Brook, a former naval officer, and other women on their treatment during their time in the exclusive Submarine Service, in a newspaper interview published in October 2022.
Ms. Brook, 32, summarized her main accusation as follows: “Misogyny, sexual harassment, and assault are pervasive in the submarine service.”
She claimed to have received “multiple people contacting me saying the same thing happened to me… that ranged from minor to major” after going public.
Ms. Brook provided testimony to the military police and the investigation. She may have been the first female submarine commander, but she has since retired from the navy.
