Ashton Kutcher is responding to the criticism he received for suggesting that artificial intelligence may virtually take the place of many different positions in the entertainment sector.
Speaking with former Google CEO Eric Schmidt last week at the Berggruen Salon in Los Angeles, Kutcher praised Sora, an OpenAI tool for generative film.
According to Variety, he stated, “I have a beta version of it, and it’s pretty amazing.”
“You are free to create any kind of video. You can make realistic-looking 10, 15, or 20-second videos. It continues to make errors. It’s still not quite up to speed on physics,” he said. “… However, when comparing Sora to this generation from a year ago, there have been significant advancements.
Indeed, I believe you could easily utilize some of the footage in a big-budget film or television series.”
Additionally, Kutcher mentioned how generative AI might lower production costs.
“If you could just build the establishing shot for $100, why would you go out and shoot a house for a television show? It would cost you thousands of dollars to go out and photograph it,” he clarified. “Action scenes of me jumping off of this building; you don’t have to have a stunt person go do it; you could just go do it [with AI].”
The 46-year-old added that the outcomes would get better as long as programs and technology kept becoming better.
