The director of 12 Years A Slave acknowledged that, despite having worked on the project for more than ten years, it seemed “even more urgent” to screen Blitz at this time, given the ongoing conflicts in Gaza, Ukraine, and other places.
According to McQueen, a photo he came across while doing research on the Blitz served as the inspiration for his youthful lead.
