Plans for investments to prolong the lifespan of its nuclear power reactors in operation in the UK have been disclosed by EDF Energy. In the fight against climate change, the French state-owned company claimed that its plans, which are pending regulatory clearance and a final investment decision, will strengthen energy security. As per the plans, output at the Torness, Heysham 1 and 2, and Hartlepool plants’ advanced gas-cooled reactors (AGRs) will be maintained for “as long as possible.” It is also investigating the possibility of operating its Sizewell B plant for 20 years longer than expected. The business stated that it intended to decide by the end of the day whether or not its ideas were viable.
