Nawaz Sharif, the president of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), is said to have convened a conference on Monday to decide how to proceed following the “surprise” Supreme Court decision that deemed Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) qualified for the reserved seats.
As the ruling coalition faces increasing pressure following Friday’s judgment, which is expected to boost the Imran Khan-founded party’s position in parliament by denying the ruling parties a two-thirds majority in the National Assembly, the development has been reported by sources.
Due to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) December 2023 verdict, which was confirmed by the Supreme Court and pronounced the party’s internal polls unconstitutional, PML-N’s political competitor PTI was disqualified from the polls on February 8 and was also prohibited from using its famous electoral symbol, the “bat.”
