PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari stated on Friday that the PPP, JUI-F, and PML-N had come to an agreement on the constitutional revision.
At a joint parliamentary party gathering in Parliament House, Islamabad, Bilawal declared, “This will be the last weekend you’ll have to spend on this (the constitutional package).”
Known as the 26th amendment to the Constitution, the law intends to modify the Supreme Court’s chief justice nomination procedure.
Many legal experts worry that by restricting the Supreme Court’s power to solely civil and criminal appeals or petitions, the proposed reforms could compromise the independence of the judiciary.
