ISLAMABAD: Barrister Gohar Ali Khan, the chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated that the pardoning of 19 out of 67 prisoners is “not a major progress” after the military’s Courts of Appeal granted clemency to over a dozen convicts of the violent protests on May 9, 2023, “on humanitarian grounds” earlier today.
In an interview with reporters in Islamabad on Thursday, Gohar stated that just 19 of the 67 prisoners who had appealed their sentences were pardoned.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), up to 19 prisoners had their sentences revoked “purely on humanitarian grounds” following a request for clemency.
The military’s media wing stated that the remaining mercy applications will be resolved after the judicial process, which will take time.
