The remarks were delivered by John Kirby, the spokesperson for the White House, the day after a senior House Republican issued cryptic concerns about a “serious national security threat”.
According to the news, the weapon is space-based and equipped with a nuclear bomb to target satellites.
However, Mr. Kirby declined to corroborate this and to provide specifics of the threat on Thursday.
Moscow charged that the US was using its allegations of new Russian weaponry as a smoke screen to get Congress to approve more aid for Ukraine “by hook or by crook.”
Recently appointed as President Joe Biden’s senior advisor, Mr. Kirby assured reporters that the American people are not in immediate danger.
“We’re not discussing a weapon that is capable of attacking people. or physically devastate this Earth,” he declared.
According to Mr. Kirby, President Biden was informed of the intelligence and his administration was treating the weapon’s development “very seriously”. The president has already issued an order for “direct diplomatic engagement with Russia” in response to the danger, he continued.
