Washington: According to a representative of Meta’s well-known WhatsApp communication service, the Israeli spyware firm Paragon Solutions has targeted a large number of its users, including journalists and civil society people.
After the hack, WhatsApp issued Paragon a cease-and-desist letter, the official said on Friday. WhatsApp said in a statement that it “will continue to protect people’s ability to communicate privately.”
Paragon chose not to respond.
The WhatsApp representative said Reuters that it had discovered an attempt to hack about 90 of its users.
The official stated that targets included an unidentified number of members of the media and civic society, but he would not specify who was specifically targeted or where they were located.
