According to Houston police, 54-year-old information security officer Russell Richardson lost his life after his car flooded on his way to work. Richardson was called in to assist with rescue efforts.
Bossier Sheriff Julian Whittington said that at least two people—including a woman in Benton, Louisiana—were killed when trees fell on homes.
According to certain accounts from the local media, up to six individuals may have perished from drowning or falling trees.
After the storm, which was downgraded to a tropical storm on Monday, uprooted hundreds of trees and knocked out ten long-distance transmission lines, more than 2.4 million households and businesses in the state were left without power.
Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick of Texas stated that the firm was prioritizing facilities like assisted living homes and nursing homes and hiring hundreds of more people to restore power.
“We’re not past any difficult conditions,” Mr. Patrick declared, estimating that it would take “multiple days to get power restored.”
