Due to its diverse political makeup, Maricopa County, which is home to over 4.5 million people and surrounds Phoenix in south central Arizona, is widely regarded as one of the major battleground counties in the United States. It will give either former President Trump or Vice President Kamala Harris 11 vital electoral votes.
Arizona GOP Chairwoman Gina Swoboda stated in an interview with News that Maricopa County is “our largest and most populous county in Arizona.” More than 60% of the state’s voters are represented there.
There are roughly three parties involved: one is Democratic, one is Republican, and one is Independent. That varies somewhat. For all intents and purposes, however, we are a third.
Phoenix has what I would describe as a dense urban core. Then there are the suburbs, which are expanding. It continuously ranks among the fastest-growing counties in the US. Just by virtue of its composition, the county is diverse: there are urban areas, suburban areas, and what were formerly small villages that are quickly becoming cities. With that type of growth, a community is under a lot of strain, and it receives a lot of attention because it holds 60% of the state’s vote.
