Following a military coup that toppled her government in 2021, Ms. Suu Kyi has been in detention and faces up to 27 years in prison for offenses ranging from treason and bribery to breaking telecom laws.
Major General Zaw Min Tun, a spokesman for the Junta, stated that the 78-year-old was transported “because the weather is extremely hot.”
He continued, saying, “It is not only for Aung San Suu Kyi… for all those who need necessary precautions, especially elderly prisoners, we are working to protect them from heatstroke,” in remarks that were picked up by four media sites.
Kim Aris, the son of Ms. Suu Kyi, stated in February that his mother was in good spirits but that she was being detained in solitary confinement and that her health was “not as good as it was in the past”.
