Following her Super Tuesday setbacks, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley is reportedly planning to suspend her presidential candidacy, leaving former President Donald Trump unopposed in the Republican race and potentially securing a rematch with President Joe Biden in November.
According to News, Haley is slated to address the press in Charleston, South Carolina, even though she will not immediately endorse Trump. She was the last contender to withdraw from the contest after more than a year of campaigning, having announced her attempt early on.
Haley’s campaign focused on introducing a “new generational leader” and breaking twentieth-century political traditions. Despite her political expertise and name recognition, she began as a relative unknown before becoming Trump’s leading challenger.
As the election narrowed down to Haley and Trump, she suffered setbacks in New Hampshire and her home state of South Carolina. Despite winning the Washington, DC primary just before Super Tuesday, it proved insufficient.
In an effort to set herself apart from Trump’s vision for the Republican Party, Haley sharpened her assaults, citing concerns about Trump’s adherence to the Constitution and labeling his potential nomination as “suicide for our country.”
