Safia Ahmadei was charged with “scouting” Wolverhampton’s New Cross Hospital for a child she could pose as her own.
However, a jury ruled her not guilty of attempted kidnapping after an 11-day trial in just 48 minutes.
Since her arrest in February, Ms. Ahmadei has insisted on her innocence. She told the news, “My reputation, my dignity, my career is gone, all because of a wrong allegation.”
While awaiting trial, the mother of two spent six months in prison on remand. During that time, she claimed that other prisoners had attacked her three times.
Because it took four months to have phone calls allowed, Ms. Ahmadei was unable to communicate with her family while she was incarcerated.
“Prison made me broken—behind the door, in the dark, thinking about my two flowers… my children,” she added.
Ms. Ahmadei, who arrived in England from Afghanistan in 2011, joined the University of Wolverhampton’s nursing program in 2022.
She said that her life had been completely flipped upside down while she was a second-year trainee at the city’s hospital.
Ms. Ahmadei insists that she was arrested, charged, and put on trial for allegedly attempting to take a newborn after an innocent interaction with a distraught new mother in the neonatal unit.
