PTI Chairman Gohar Ali Khan called off the party’s protest demonstration against the proposed constitutional amendment on Saturday at Liaquat Bagh in Rawalpindi after Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was unable to arrive at the location. There were also reports of altercations between police and party members.
Workers tried to enter the venue to demonstrate while police fired rubber bullets and used tear gas. Both the PTI leadership and its followers encountered difficulties in reaching the garrison city. Azma Bukhari, the Punjab Minister of Information, asserted prior to Khan’s declaration that Gandapur had retreated before arriving in the city. The KP chief minister declared his return from Patangar shortly after that.
Gandapur said, “We do not wish to confront the institutions,” as he withdrew.
