According to a complaint her family filed, Jessie Marie Peterson had Type 1 diabetes when she was taken to Mercy San Juan Medical Center near Sacramento on April 6, 2023.
A few days later, her mother Ginger Congi called the hospital and was informed that Ms. Peterson had been released, according to the lawsuit.
The family put up notices and submitted a missing person’s report to the county sheriff’s office in an effort to locate her.
Jessie’s family was not informed that she had passed away at Mercy San Juan hospital until April 12, 2024, by the Sacramento County Detective’s Office, according per the lawsuit.
Because her family was not informed of her passing, they assumed Ms. Peterson was still living.
The family was able to get hospital records that showed her body was moved to an off-site cold storage unit and left there for a year.
