North Lanarkshire, Scotland’s Declan McDonald broke his neck during a game on Saturday.
On Saturday, Declan McDonald broke his neck while playing for AC Rovers against EK Burgh.
After being brought to the hospital, the teenager—who plays for the North Lanarkshire teams Airdrie and Coatbridge—underwent a ten-hour procedure.
His teammates were “devastated” by his injury, according to a statement.
Declan has no feeling from the shoulders down following the incident, and he suffered a broken neck, according to a Facebook post shared by AC Rovers FC.
“This morning he has been through a 10-hour surgery on his neck and now as you will understand it is a waiting game, the current prognosis is Declan is highly unlikely to ever be able to walk again, hopefully with rehab and physio he will regain some feeling/use of his arms and hands.”
“The club requests that you keep Declan in your prayers and thoughts during the upcoming weeks and months as he continues his recuperation. We will update this page with additional information as it becomes available.
