Athletics and swimming are also required in the trimmed-down 10-sport program that was unveiled on Tuesday; however, hockey and badminton have been eliminated.
The Games, which cost more than £540 million to host in Glasgow in 2014, will be hosted in four locations from July 23 to August 2, 2026.
When the Australian state of Victoria withdrew due to growing expenses, Glasgow stepped in to host.
At the 2026 Games, competitors from as many as 74 Commonwealth countries and territories are anticipated to field 3,000 athletes.
Additionally, “fully integrated para-competitions” in six of the chosen sports will be included in the event.
“The Games promise to be a truly immersive festival of sport and celebration of culture and diversity that inspires athletes and sports – with a fan experience more accessible than ever before,” stated Katie Sadleir, chief executive of the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF).
According to First Minister John Swinney, the occasion presents a thrilling chance for the Scottish people.
Although Glasgow 2026 will appear very different from past Games, he stated: “We can and must take advantage of this to work together to make sure that this new idea brings a strong and sustainable future for the games.”
