The two siblings grew up on the tiny Caribbean island of Anguilla, where they were quite close. Shawn, who is five years younger than his sister, was fiercely protective of her.
“I think about him when I wake up almost every day. Shana, 15, adds, “My mind just goes on him immediately.”
“I know he is passed away, but it does not feel like that in my mind.”
On November 13, 2023, in Wolverhampton, two 12-year-old boys beat and stabbed Shawn to death with a machete. His age was nineteen.
He planned to settle down in the West Midlands after traveling to the UK for cataract treatment. The day before he was supposed to begin an engineering course in Birmingham, he was slain.
Earlier that day, Shawn had called his younger sister.
She recalls: “He called me during break at school and inquired about my well-being and other things.” After we had spoken for a few minutes, he declared his love for me and said we would talk later. But it never materialized.
Shana finds it incomprehensible why Shawn was killed.
