LAHORE: In a corruption reference submitted by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) President Parvez Elahi was indicted by an accountability court in Lahore.
Parvez, the former chief minister of Punjab, has refuted the accusations made against him, and the court has called witnesses for the upcoming hearing.
The senior lawmaker, his son Moonis Elahi, and others are charged with fraudulently authorizing a number of development plans, accepting kickbacks, and costing the national exchequer more than Rs1 billion.
According to the NAB’s reference, the PTI politician and his son were also charged with accepting bribes by giving contracts to their “favourite contractors.” The pair allegedly earned over Rs1 billion in kickbacks through middlemen in more than 200 development projects in Gujarat.
