In the 17 years since its inception, the Assassin’s Creed franchise has transported fans all over the world, from Ancient Greece to Victorian London.
Despite numerous requests, it has never tiptoed into Japan. Until now.
Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, previously codenamed Assassin’s Creed: Red, is the franchise’s long-awaited return to the feudal 16th Century Sengoku Period.
So, what took so long?
According to game director Charles Benoit, for each new Assassin’s Creed game, the team considers various settings and takes into account input from series fans.
“So there’s a lot of people involved,” he continues.
“We’re looking at certain past projects and future projects, and we felt that, this time, it was the perfect moment for Japan.”
